True Crime Cases in India

The cases I've mapped across India range widely in kind, from organized serial murder to terror attacks that reshaped public debate. They include the Auto Shankar killings in Chennai in the late 1980s and the long pursuit of Veerappan, the forest bandit and poacher finally shot by police in 2004.

Among them is K. D. Kempamma, known as Cyanide Mallika, recorded as India's first convicted female serial killer, who poisoned women she met at temples to rob their gold. Others mark moments of national reckoning: the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people over four days, and the 2012 Delhi bus rape and murder that drew mass protests and changes to the country's laws.

I research each entry by hand and place it where it happened. The cases here are documented records, not a verdict on the country itself.
