True Crime Cases in Argentina

Argentina holds a small but striking place in the true-crime record, and the cases I have mapped here center on Buenos Aires. Both unsettled a country that did not expect violence to wear such ordinary faces.

The best known is Carlos Robledo Puch, the teenager the press called the Black Angel of Death, convicted of eleven murders during a spree in the early 1970s. Alongside him I have documented Yiya Murano, the housewife remembered as the Poisoner of Monserrat, who killed three women from her own social circle with cyanide laced into tea and pastries.
