The cases I've mapped here in Serbia are few but distinct, and most lead back to Belgrade. They sit at very different points: the legacy of the Kosovo conflict, the world of organized crime, and a single act of violence in a quiet village.
Two reach into the country's political life. The 2003 assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, shot outside government headquarters in a plot tied to organized crime and a paramilitary unit, remains one of Serbia's defining crimes. Vlastimir Djordjevic, a senior police official, was later convicted at The Hague for crimes against humanity in Kosovo.
The Velika Ivanca massacre of 2013 is different in kind: a retired soldier moving house to house in a small village. The list below is the full record I've documented so far for Serbia.
