The Philippines appears on this map through a single case I have documented so far: the 1985 murder of Fr. Tullio Favali, an Italian PIME missionary priest, in Tulunan, North Cotabato. The killing was led by Norberto Manero Jr., known as Kumander Bucay, a leader of the Ilaga paramilitary group active in the region at the time.
The case drew attention well beyond Mindanao because of its brutality and because the victim was a foreign clergyman. I research every case here by hand, so this entry reflects what is firmly on record rather than a broad pattern.
