Kenya holds a small place in the true-crime record I keep here, but the case I have documented is among the more disturbing on the continent. It centers on Philip Onyancha, who confessed in 2008 to a series of killings in and around Nairobi.
Onyancha told investigators he drank his victims' blood, claiming a cult teacher had instructed him to reach a set number of killings to gain success. The confession drew attention, though the legal process that followed proved far less certain than the headlines.
