Kazakhstan appears only briefly in the true-crime record I keep, and the case mapped here belongs to the Soviet era. It is centered on Almaty, then the capital of Soviet Kazakhstan.
The entry is the case of Nikolai Dzhumagaliev, the man known as Metal Fang, who murdered and cannibalized several women in and around Almaty before his arrest in 1980. I have documented it on its own terms rather than as part of any broader pattern, because it is the single Kazakh case I have been able to verify.
