Indonesia's presence in the true-crime record is small but striking. The case I've mapped here centers on Ahmad Suradji, the so-called Sorcerer Killer, who operated near Medan in North Sumatra.
Posing as a shaman, Suradji persuaded women to be buried up to their waists as part of a supposed ritual, then strangled them. It remains one of the most disturbing cases tied to ritual belief that I've documented.
