True Crime Cases in Colombia
1 documented case spanning 1999–1999 . Each case is researched from public sources, with locations, perpetrators, victims and video coverage.
The Colombia entry in this atlas centers on one of the most disturbing cases I have documented anywhere: Luis Garavito, known as La Bestia, the Beast. Working through the late 1990s, he was convicted of murdering 138 children, luring victims with the promise of money or small gifts before killing them.
I have kept the focus here narrow and factual. A single case does not describe a country, and nothing I have mapped suggests Colombia is unusual in that way. What it marks is the scale of one man's crimes, the kind of case that reshaped how investigators thought about missing children across the region.
The cases mapped here are researched by hand, with dates, places, and outcomes checked against the available record. The live count on this page reflects what I have confirmed for Colombia so far.
