True Crime Cases in Aruba

Aruba's place in the true-crime record rests largely on one case, and it is among the most followed disappearances of its era. In 2005, Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway vanished in Oranjestad during a high-school graduation trip. The investigation drew sustained international attention and never produced her body.

I've documented the case here as it actually unfolded: years of searches, suspicion that centered on Joran van der Sloot, and a 2023 confession in which he admitted killing Holloway on a beach and disposing of her remains.
